IBGVR founder Jim MacMillan was invited to make a lunch-hour presentation on “Best Practices for Journalists Covering Gun Violence” near Washington last month during a convening of an expert panel addressing the current gap in firearms data.
The panel has been organized by NORC at the University of Chicago with support from Arnold Ventures “to create a blueprint detailing actionable recommendations for the development of an objective and sustainable firearms data infrastructure for use by local, state, and federal policymakers and their constituents and the research community.”
“Through a series of meetings, the expert panel will exchange ideas, review existing data systems, and hear testimony from expert witnesses,” according to a press release last fall.
Their first report was released last month: The State of Firearms Data in 2019.
